A Habit of the World’s Top Innovators

Zuckerberg

What do Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Elon Musk (Tesla), and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) have in common? All three invest in their learning by voraciously reading for self-improvement, creativity, and innovative ideas. In fact, according to Tom Corley, 88 percent of wealthy people read 30 minutes or more every day.

Two books provided creative inspiration for Mark Zuckerberg:

  1. Creativity, Inc. – Learn how Pixar (Toy Story, Finding Nemo) became the leading animation studio it is today. In fact, Zuckerberg painted this line, inspired by the book on Facebook headquarter’s walls: “Better done than perfect.”
  2. The Idea Factory – Bell Labs, founded by Alexander Graham Bell, innovated by concentrating on the intersection of business and science to transform communication throughout the world.

A personal favorite of mine,  The Invisible Advantage: How to Create a Culture of Innovation by Soren Kaplan, chronicles the innovation journey of several successful companies. Kaplan explains that all cultures are different and there’s no magic bullet for creating an innovative culture. The examples he provides puts your mind into overdrive and it is worth a read.
